Technology is always changing and social media is right at the heart of this. Twitter is currently one of the largest social networks and it has recently made one of many changes to its interface. Twitter’s Chief Executive, Dick Costolo, recently revealed a new layout for Twitter, which puts an emphasis on images.
The new look will be soon rolled out for desktop & mobile users. The profile pictures that users choose to display will be moved to the middle of a large banner image that will be used on all websites and applications.

These new images will be known as ‘header photos’ and can be uploaded from Android, iPads or iPhones, as well as the Twitter website itself. They will be seen by people who visit your profile and will be an extra way of getting to know each other. In addition to this, users’ photostreams will be moved higher up on the left hand side of the screen. They will be easily accessible and more obvious, due to their increased size.
These changes are in line with Twitter’s desire to add more visual interest to the site. This would indeed make the whole interface more visually appealing to users, as the emphasis on the site up until now has been the words. Of course, the words will still be there as the essence of what Twitter is, but a little extra interest will jazz it up a bit. Twitter is currently trying to market itself as a ‘destination’ so that its advertising business can begin to flourish.
They have not only redesigned the iPhone app, Android app and the website, but also rebuilt the iPad app to greatly enhance its speed and ease of use. Users can now gain access to tweeted material such as photographs and videos more directly. This will speed up the whole process of using Twitter and make it much more convenient to use.
